Since today is all about lovin’ your lovah, I thought I would tell the story of the first Valentine’s Day me and the mister spent together:
It was 9 years ago and I was the ripe old age of 17. Mister and I had been dating for about 3 months. I did NOT know what to do for him for Valentine’s. So, I did what any 17 year old girl does and I made him a Build-a-Bear. It was actually a monkey that I dressed in boxers and a t-shirt, because what 19 year old guy doesn’t want a stuffed monkey? During the building of the bear, you are required to do all of these extra tasks like picking out a fabric heart to place inside of it and kissing it before you place it in the bear, jumping around during certain phases of the bear’s creation, etc. Anyways, I did it all and walked away with a cute little monkey.
On Valentine’s Day, mister invited me over and he cooked me dinner (I believe it was pasta. We were babies, ok?). Then he brought me upstairs, where he had lit tea lights all around his room and sitting on his bed was his very own Build-a-Bear creation for me. And all I could picture was him doing all of those funny steps I had done for him and how he probably really didn’t want to do them but did. For me. Just so that I could have a cute litte white bear with red hearts all over it. Of course we laughed about us getting each other the same gift but in my little teenage brain I thought it meant more. And ya know, 9 years later, I guess I can say it did.
Have you thrown up yet over this mushy stuff? I almost did, but got teary eyed instead.
